Scouting Report
Naiim Parrish is already a Division 1 recruit for his exploits on the football field at New Jersey powerhouse Bergen Catholic.
Don’t be surprised to see that this skilled young man, is equally as talented at the point guard position on the hardwood as he is on the gridiron.
So which way would he lean when it's time to pick a sport for college?
"It's way too early, let's see how basketball season goes,'' he said. "But if God blesses me, I would love to do both.''
But first things first. At last check, Bergen Catholic was 9-1 and seeking another group championship. Parrish has been a starting defensive back since opening day. He has recorded 34 tackles, including 23 solo, while intercepting five passes.
Parrish, a resident of Freehold, played mostly defense, but expects to be a two-way player next year.
He runs the 40 in 4.6 and maintains a grade point average of 3.6.
On the JV hoops team last year, he averaged 16.3 points and 5.6 assists per game. He expects to be a varsity starter this winter.
For football, Parrish is clearly a standout and even amongst the tremendous talent across the Bergen Catholic roster, Parrish has been in communication with coaches from:
South Carolina
Duke
Maryland
Delaware
UMass
UConn
Mississippi
Scouting Report: "Parrish can do it all on the defensive side of the ball (we'll have to wait to see what he can offensively next year) as a corner. He has been on an island guarding Division I recruits and has more than held his own. He can stick like glue to a receiver, he can jump a route with athletic instincts, he has the ability to see the entire field and he is an aggressive hitter. It's rare to see this 'whole package' type of player at such a young age going against the best high school competition New Jersey has to offer.''
