Scouting Report

Size, athletic ability, versatility – it’s all there for the Waterford High School (Conn.) senior. Now it's just a matter of time before the colleges start knocking.

At 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, Hynes is a dual threat with a rocket for an arm. After five games - the Lancers are 3-2 - he has thrown for 620 yards and nine touchdowns with just three interceptions. Hynes can also take off as he has rushed for 418 yards and six more TD's.

As a further representation of his versatility, Waterford is also counting on Hynes to be a big contributor for their basketball team, just as he was last winter for the 17-7 Lancers.

Scouting report: "Hynes displays all the attributes you look for in a quarterback. He has the size and talent and is just as efficient lobbing a short touch pass, throwing a quick out pass or throwing one deep. He is also not one dimensional. A drop-back, pro style QB, he can also run whether it's on a broken play, avoiding pressure or taking off on a bootleg. He has a high football IQ and can see the entire field.''

This young man seems to embrace the notion of hard work, carrying a 3.0 grade point average, twice being named as the ECC Player of the Week, attending the Elite Camp at Tufts, and throwing for 1,242 yards and 14 touchdowns during his 2021 campaign.

Enduring the passing of his father during his freshman year, every season since, Hynes has gotten better. A lot of it is based on natural maturity…, physically and mentally, a lot is due to a very supportive coaching staff and teammates, but Hynes believes a lot can be attributed to his father's presence. Hynes believes his father is still giving him advice and critiquing his game before and after each game.
