Scouting Report

When William Chambers transferred into Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair (N.J.) as junior in 2021, head coach Maurice Lucas didn't think much about it.

The 5-11, 150-pound defensive back/wide receiver showed some promise, but with his size, Lucas needed the kid to really stand out if he was going to get noticed.

One year later, the senior is still 150 pounds, but his diligence and hard work has made Lucas take notice, to the point where Chambers is a starting corner for the Lions, who are heading to the playoffs at 5-3.

"He gives everything he has on every play,'' said Lucas. "He has worked very hard to get better ever since he came here and made me take notice. He is a sure tackler for a small kid, but he'll continue to work hard in the weight room to get bigger and stronger. I can see him playing college football somewhere.''

Chambers, who has been in on close to 30 tackles with several pass breakups, is a Perth Amboy resident who also plays wide receiver. He has started receiving interest from Division 3 schools. He runs a 4.6, 40.

Scouting report: "Chambers has athletic instincts, so he is able to anticipate whether it's a slant route, a fake and go or a long ball. He sees the whole field and he is a deceptively hard tackler. When he sees the play is a run, he is able to fly to the ball, make the play and lets the ballcarrier know he is ready to hit.''
